Erica Gibson has a penchant for the unique and mysterious. In her mixed-media sculptures, she begins with reclaimed and vintage objects, then adds hand-sculpted faces from clay to bring them to life. Thoughtful and introspective, real and imagined, she coaxes out stories from these intriguing objects. Whether a wooden gill net float, an antique newel post or vintage sewing machine drawer passed down generations, she weaves the objects' stories together with her own to create enchanting and enigmatic stories. Having a reverence for the earth and the complexities of human emotions, she fuses together work that strives to create a connection between both our planet and the people on it.
"I'm captivated by old objects and inspired by myth, magic, and philosophy. I love finding old wooden objects that I can embellish to tell a story. I think I've always seen the possibilities of turning a collection of seemingly mundane materials into something enchanting." - Erica Erica has exhibited her artwork in galleries, art fairs and alternative spaces throughout the Pacific Northwest. Raised in the Seattle area, she now lives in Portland where she has resided over 20 years. She has hosted art classes and demos teaching painting, sculpting and creative reuse. ................................................................................................................................................................................
